MSNBC: "Nationwide Epidemic of Theft"

I was watching MSNBC the other day as they were reporting more on the foreclosure epidemic across the country. They had an expert on discussing foreclosure scams - the letters you receive, the promises that are made, and the fact that foreclosure scams are now "a nationwide epidemic of theft". He's absolutely right - foreclosure scams aren't new, but they are more frequent now that foreclosure rates in the U.S. have hit record numbers.

Unfortunately, what I DIDN'T hear on MSNBC was a SOLUTION.

Understanding that segments are only 2-3 minutes long, they can't go deep into the scams traits to look out for and how to protect yourself. They had a HUD counselor on who made the point that homeowners should seek help from the multitudes of sources available (???), and the anchorwoman concluded the segment by saying that you should contact your lender at the first sign of difficulty.

But what ELSE should you know about foreclosure scams? The answer... PLENTY!

The link below points to some advice about how to protect yourself from foreclosure scams, but, in addition to that, we'll cover scams IN DETAIL in the next few posts. We will point out what to look for, how the scams work, and what the common traits are. We review each of the scams in detail (as well as solutions, steps, and checklists) in The Foreclosure Workbook - talk about your "multitudes of sources available"... all in one book!
