Trump Offers to Help Ed McMahon Stop Foreclosure

The Los Angeles Times reports today that Donald Trump has agreed to buy Ed McMahon’s Beverly Hills property and allow him to continue living there. Details of the transaction have not yet been revealed, but I am sure that is a huge weight off for Ed McMahon.

I have to say, I feel torn about this news. On one hand, I think the arrangement brings a great deal of relief to the McMahon family. Not only have they had to face foreclosure, but the publicity had to have brought a sense of embarrassment and emotional stress that did not help the situation.

However, this is one of those instances that I am constantly asked about on radio interviews. During the talk, a host asks me who is to blame and why should the American Homeowner be bailed out for making a bad decision. I always come to the defense of the homeowner, but don't think I can do that in this case. Does Ed McMahon - a man who has been a host, co-host, and spokesperson for YEARS - not have enough money set aside to take care of his situation? Wouldn't that have made the decision to buy this Beverly Hills property a bad one?

I am glad the situation worked out for Ed McMahon. Unfortunately, John Q. Homeowner doesn't have saviors like Donald Trump to bail them out. They need education, information, and sound guidance.
